ObDOE was founded in 1998 by Bill Kappeleto spread the success he had as an R&D professional. Bill achieved 14 patents using the Design of Experiments (DOE) method. Bill is a lifelong learner and a born teacher. He utilized DOE early in his career at Hewlett Packard to invent color inks for the first color inkjet printer, the Paintjet. Bill learned about DOE and Response Surface Methodology (RSM) from a pioneer in Design of Experiments, Dave Doehlert. Part of the success of the inkjet project was due to RSM, which allowed Hewlett Packard to widely predict the behavior of the inks.
Bill's career progressed to another HP division (printed circuit board plating), Hach Chemical (producing chemical test kits) and Lexmark International (where Bill invented the first lightfast black ink for Lexmark's inkjet printers). Over these 15 years, Bill brought Dave Doehlert's gifted teaching of DOE and RSM to his colleagues at each new worksite. Repeatedly Bill saw the powerful advantage that DOE gave each student.
Chemists and engineers enter the workplace with great theories, but no efficient strategy for converting their theories into real-life products. Budgets and deadlines reign in the workplace. The technical person strives to produce results for their employer, experiencing much frustration, working very hard using the old experimental ways they learned in college. Without DOE, a lot of luck is needed to produce necessary results on time, on budget.
When Dave Doehlert learned he had lymphoma, he asked Bill to take over teaching DOE for the Experiment Strategies Foundation. Dave taught Bill many of his highly effective teaching methods to convey DOE in a friendly, practical way. Bill honors Dave's legacy and continues to improve and update his workshops to maximize students learning DOE and RSM.
Bill incorporated Math Options Inc. as the legal vehicle for his DOE workshops. Later, to more accurately reflect the company's purpose, he changed the name to ObDOE. Bill also offers several advanced DOE classes, a special DOE class just for chemists, and many auxiliary DOE workshops on subjects like: Gage R&R, Regression Analysis, and Statistical Process Control.
All ObDOE workshops weave lecture material with many class exercises. Working professionals need to leave class ready to USE the training they receive. In each exercise students are presented a project based on real-life data, solve it using the DOE method and learn DOE software at the same time.
ObDOE classes use one of two outstanding commercial software packages: JMP or Minitab. Bill knows that each software has different strengths and is able to recommend the best software fit to each customer, based on their kind of work.
Customer service is Number One at ObDOE. We added consultants to the company roster for those who prefer a one-on-one consulting relationship. Support staff allows Bill to do what he does best, teaching students, training other ObDOE instructors and continually improving the workshops.
