"Easily the most valuable class I've taken in 28 years at ConocoPhillips."
George Schuette, ConocoPhillips
"I learned how to APPLY DOE."
David Tattershall, Lexmark International
"Excellent instructor and invaluable tools. Highly recommended. "
Scott North, Barlean's Organic Oils
"Bill has helped my company learn design of experiments techniques we are using to produce new product ideas and process changes. I
gained more practical knowledge in 5 days with Bill than I did in a semester long industrial statistics course. This success has
compelled me to continue working with Bill on more advanced DOE topics. I highly recommend his services to any company looking to
improve product and processes efficiently."

Why 5 steps instead of 7?
This presentation explains how the ObDOE 5 Step Methodology evolved from
Dave Doehlert's original 9 Step method through the ObDOE 7 Step method.
Please watch to see why the changes occured and how they will benefit you.

Beth and Bill hit by lightning?
Beth and Bill got to sit in a Faraday Cage at the Spark Museum of Electrical Invention in Bellingham, WA, for Bill's
birthday. The cage was hit by a "bolt of lightning" from a very powerful Tesla coil. Thanks to the laws of Physics,
no one was hurt.

Objective Reliability Analysis -- A New Workshop is Available
If you'd like to predict the
reliability and life of your products, but you don't want to deal with all the math involved with lognormal and Wiebull
distributions (argh!) then this is the workshop for you!
Setting specifications on process parameters can be a difficult job. Setting robust specifications that won't need constant adjustment may seem almost impossible. This presentation will show how a combination of Design of Experiments and Monte Carlo techniques can be used to set robust process specifications in a straightforward, objective manner. You will see an example using published data for a rubber manufacturing process. You will see the stages from designing an experiment for optimizing the process specifications through the use of a Monte Carlo simulator to study the responses to specification changes. You will see these results used to optimize the process specifications. You won't need to delve into the math -- the software JMP will handle that. You will leave this presentation with a new paradigm for setting robust process parameter specifications.

Introducing eCourses -- "Common Statistical Mistakes and How to Avoid Them" is Free Until ,August!
.
eCourses provide you with excellent flexibilty for your education. With eCourses you can learn at your own pace, when you want to learn. "Pull" the knowledge you need to yourself rather than having it "pushed" to you.
Bill Kappele spoke at the Salt Lake City JMP Area Users Group meetng March 8 at the LDS Church Riverton Office Building located at 3740 West Market Center Drive, Riverton, UT 84065

A Design of Experiments case study using the ObDOE 7 Steps is featured in Quality
Digest this month.
US Synthetic, a manufacturer of synthetic diamond compacts for the oil drilling industry,
used the 7 Step process to improve the quality of one of their excellent products.
ObDOE workshops will teach you to use DOE in your work. Design of Experiments
is a fundamental technique for industrial experimentation. You will learn to apply DOE easily without excessive
math and theory. We will help you be even more successful!

Dr. Lei Yang won free Design of Experiments training from ObDOE while attending
the 2009 ACS conference in Salt Lake City. Dr. Yang and members of her research group at
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital received
their training the week of May 4.
We at ObDOE are honored to be of help to St. Jude's
